The launch of a retail based website, featuring American made products, at a time when the nation is on lockdown, facing the most deadly health crisis of modern times may seem frivolous. Aside from the personal loss economic instability seems likely as more Americans are out of work than ever before. Whether or not we will have money to meet basic needs is more pressing then “what will we spend our money on?”
Loss of jobs, lack of control over manufacturing processes/practices and distribution of goods are a few examples of what we have given up as the bulk of our business has moved overseas. It has become painfully obvious that our dependence on other countries for production and mobilization of essential goods in times crisis may have placed us at increased risk from this pandemic. Most Personal Protective Equipment is made elsewhere, 95% of raw materials needed to produce antibiotics/medications are manufactured overseas.
From the start, this endeavor has seemed daunting. The globalization of our domestic market seems to have happened beyond our control. It feels too big to fix or change.
We would counter that it has been the small grassroots movements, lead by seemingly ordinary citizen that have shaped this country the most. It started with the dumping of pounds of tea into Boston Harbor and has continued throughout US history.
Maybe if we start with what we collectively put in our shopping carts we can BE THE CHANGE that decreases our reliance on foreign entities, increases the number of jobs available to Americans and leads us back to the self reliant, self sustaining country that we once were.
We would also contend, that whatever your cause-strengthening the economy, environmental activism/reducing your carbon footprint, labor rights/conditions, supply chain practices/safety, ensuring the future of America for our children-buying Made in the USA will guarantee that your money is supporting the values that we hold near and dear to our hearts. If all of us made a conscious effort to buy Made in the USA we would be taking back control of the economy, helping to reduce trade deficits and shaping of foreign policy without actually having to get involved in the politics. It’s simple, buying Made in the USA gives you the best opportunity to choose the direction that America’s future is headed on many an issue, financial and other wise.
Our goal is to provide you with a reference for:
- Made in USA alternatives to imported goods
- Transparency regarding supply chain-we try to contact companies and report back to you where they are sourcing their materials from
- Price range-American goods tend to be more expensive but also of better quality, we are striving to find companies that hit all price points and realize that shopping Made in USA is not for “fast fashion” (which is cheaper but horrible for the environment).
Be safe and healthy and if you have the opportunity to spend…spend wisely and responsibly and on goods MADE IN THE USA!!
